Famous for its extraordinary ‘hip swing’, the Omniturm lies at the heart of Frankfurt’s banking district and has over 50,000 m2 of mixed residential and office rental space.
This unusual architectural feature was achieved using special composite columns from spannverbund GmbH.

Columns made from conventional reinforced concrete would not have been capable of meeting the very specific requirements of this building. We designed special cast-in elements to transfer the horizontal forces generated by the skewed position to the slab, and in some cases short-circuited the forces directly between individual columns in the corner area as well.
Spun-concrete columns were used on the normal floors – and here too spannverbund provided expertise and took charge of the design calculations.
